Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of REMOTE-CONTROLLED cars do student members build?
We primarily build 1/10th scale electric car kits. These kits are designed to be entry level, come with well-organized manuals, and easy to find replacement parts. All scale vehicles at our workshop are electric. We cannot drive nitro or gas engine cars in our facility, at this time. Students that are returning to the club for more than one car kit, or have a good skill set already, can select a kit to match their skill level. Brands like Arrma, Traxxas, Absima, Axial, Losi, and Cross RC have a full range of intermediate to expert level kits to build. Do you want to shop around and find a great deal? Most electric car kits are no problem to build in our club. Bring your own kit to the club and we will help. Some larger cars, like 1/5th scale racing cars will be too big for our indoor racetracks, and are better suited for outdoor racing. Please send email with any questions you have; we are happy to help.
What kind of REMOTE-CONTROLLED cars are allowed on the tracks?
Our facility can accommodate 1/24 scale up to 1/10 scale electric cars and trucks. We cannot allow gas, benzine, or nitro powered engines inside our facility. Some larger and faster vehicles are also not allowed for safety reasons. We will let you know before entering if there is an issue with the size of the vehicle. Safe and fun driving is always encouraged, and rough or unsafe driving will not be allowed to continue. We take pride in building our scale vehicles, so take care on the track.
What does a student member need to bring for a club meeting?
We provide our Student Club Members a storage bin to keep their car kits, controller, and parts conveniently on-hand in the workshop. Students can take home their completed vehicle or 3D printed project when they are ready. Students may bring items to add to their storage box throughout the school year, like parts, upgrades or electronics. Simply show up, have fun, and make something awesome!
Where is the workshop? Can I attend with my student?
As we are only beginning to grow the club, Make-It-Fun Racing has a small workshop in the neighborhood with enough workspace for each student to have room to work on their hobby, including a workbench, access to tools, and essentials. Parents of student members are encouraged to visit at the end of the club day to see the progress and show support to those learning to build. On open practice days, students and parents can enjoy the indoor tracks together.
Where do you drive the cars and trucks that you build?
Our workshop is an open space with indoor racetrack and rock crawler playground for RC cars and trucks. All Members can use the racetrack, rock crawler playground, and facility for practice with worktables for tinkering. Driving practice and race events occur either inside our facility or outside at one of many locations around Maastricht. We organize outdoor events during nice weather days with safety in mind. Practice days are organized with driving challenges, designed to test and grow skills, and maybe to have a laugh also. Parents are encouraged to attend student club events with their student!
My Student wants to learn 3D printing. WHat do you offer for 3D printing?
Our workshop has multiple 3D printers for shared use. We often use them to make parts and accessories for our remote-controlled vehicles. Students wishing to focus mainly on 3D printing now have their own specific club days in the workshop where we focus more on 3D printing technologies by designing, slicing, and printing our own creations. Students attending the Maker’s Club days share ideas and occasionally work on team projects, where each member gets to design parts or pieces of a bigger project. Some projects are the idea of one student, and some projects come from a collection of ideas. We share knowledge of 3D printers, common issues, types of filaments, different machines and much more.
